You need boater education if you were born after December 31, 1977, and will be operating any motorized watercraft in Delaware.

Exam requirements may vary by course option.
Boaterexam: Quizzes include 10 questions. Students must score 70% or higher to pass. Students have unlimited attempts. The final exam includes 60 questions, and students must score 80% or higher to pass. Students have unlimited attempts.
Boat-Ed: Quizzes include 10 questions. Students must score 70% or higher to pass or they must redo the unit. The final exam includes 60 questions, and students must score 80% or higher to pass. Students have unlimited attempts.
Ilearntoboat: The final exam includes 60 questions. Students must score 80% or higher to pass. Students have unlimited attempts.
Boat-Ed+: The final exam includes 60 questions. Students must score 80% or higher to pass. Students have unlimited attempts.
After completing the course
After completing a Delaware course, students can immediately print their temporary certificate.
The physical card typically arrives in 3-4 weeks and is sent by the state.
Age and operator restrictions
Those who are 14 or 15 years old and hold a boating safety certification card may operate a personal watercraft only if under the direct onboard supervision of their parent or legal guardian.
Those who are 16 years old or older and hold a boating safety certification card may operate a personal watercraft without restrictions.
Exemptions
The certification is not required for operators who have:
A valid U.S. Coast Guard license
A valid Delaware River Captain and Bay Pilot’s license or equivalent
Replacement cards
Replacement cards are handled by the state of Delaware.
